For over five decades, Lynn Goldsmith has been recognized for her photography with awards, work in permanent museum collections, and 17 books from publishers like Taschen, Rizzoli and Abrams. She has been creating defining portraits of figures who shaped culture over the past half century. Alongside this celebrated career, she nurtured a private and enduring practice as a painter.
From the late 1960s onward, aware of how difficult it was for women to gain recognition in the art world, she chose to keep her paintings hidden. Painting became her sanctuary, a space of personal freedom and reflection. Over the years, she created steadily and privately, producing a vast body of work that charted her inner world as her photographs documented the outer lives of others.
Now, at 78, she is ready to share this unseen work. Together, her oil paintings and photographs reveal the fullness of a life devoted to image-making-an artist who never stopped looking, questioning, and creating.
